Purpose
This document provides direction to SAUSD employees and students regarding publishing web pages on the internet through
SAUSD Web Servers. Considerations reflected in this document are:
- Assuring the web resources are used to promote SAUSD's educational goals
- Protecting the welfare of children
- Respecting the rights of the children's parents or guardian
- Protecting every individual's right to privacy
- Protecting intellectual and property rights of ownership/copyright
Responsibility for Content
Site Principals/District Administrators and web page authors (staff, students, volunteers, or parents) are responsible
for content published on the web. It is the responsibility of the above individuals that the web pages reflect
these SAUSD standards. The District's Web Developer is not responsible for web page content, but has the
authority to remove pages or content that does not conform to these standards.
Directions for Publishing
Web page authors need to adhere to the guidelines listed below. School or departmental web pages are viewable by
anyone with Internet access. In this respect, they reflect the Santa Ana Unified School District and need to be
presented in a professional manner.

All School/District web pages/sites must be maintained on the District web server effective September
30th, 2005.

No links from the web site are permitted to personal home pages of teachers, students, parents and staff.

Web pages must not contain grammar or spelling errors.

Content information within the site needs to be kept current and up-to-date.

Broken or non-function links must be avoided. Pages that continue to have non-functioning links will be
removed from the SAUSD site.

Carefully review all web sites before linking to them on your web page. Linking to inappropriate sites will
be removed from the SAUSD site.

Staff should keep passwords and user names confidential.

Use of the district website for the pursuit of personal or financial gain is prohibited.

Each staff member who becomes a publisher on the SAUSD website must have a signed Internet Access Agreement on
file at their site.

All web pages are property of the school district and as such are subject to review, editing or removal by the
superintendent or his/her designee and the district web developer.

Responsibility for Content

While it is the responsibility of each individual to adhere to these standards, the school site principal
or district department administrator is responsible for the implementation of the standards and/or removal
of inappropriate material from the web pages of employees who they supervise. The district web
developer is not responsible for web page content, but has the authority to remove pages or content that
does not conform to the district’s web authoring standards.

Protecting the Welfare of Children

Do not publish photographs of individual students on any webpage.

Only pictures of students taken as a group shall be posted. Where practical, post pictures at such an
angle or distance where individual students cannot be identified.

The teacher or administrator must obtain written permission from the parent or guardian to publish a
student's picture and/or student's work on the Internet. The parent permission forms are available
for downloading from the SAUSD website (www.sausd.k12.ca.us).

Do not publish student's full names. Student's work may be identified by first name.

Web pages shall not contain the email address, personal address, phone number or any personal information
about students.

Privacy Rights

Employee's pictures and personal information may only be posted to the Internet with the written permission
of the employee. The form for acquiring permission is also available for downloading from the SAUSD
website (www.sausd.k12.ca.us).

School Webpages

Principals are responsible for the content of the web pages posted or linked to their school web page, as
well as:

Maintaining current records of a signed Internet Access Agreement for their school staff.

Student and Employee Permission (to publish) forms must be kept on file by the school site
principal / department administrator until the material is removed from the web server.

Do not allow students to maintain a school web page without staff supervision.

Copyright

All web pages must adhere to Board Policy/Administrative Regulation 6003, COPYRIGHT LAW COMPLIANCE.

All teacher web pages must comply with all state, federal, and international laws concerning
copyright, intellectual property rights, and legal uses of network computers.

Teacher Web Pages
-
The SAUSD teacher web pages were developed with the goal of enhancing and supporting educational
opportunities for students and communication with parents.

Teacher web pages must pertain to a class, class assignments, class newsletters and calendars, class
projects, or other class related activity.

Teachers will be responsible for maintaining their teacher web pages.

Department Web Pages
-
Department web pages must pertain to a department, department calendars, resources or other department
related activity.

Departments will be responsible for providing the web developer with content in a timely fashion.

Do not publish photographs of individual students on any webpage.
