CLHS Region 11 Educator of the Year 2005
Congratulations! Alexandra Ito, Interim Director, Educational Technology and Media Services, was
awarded Educator of the Year 2005 at the CLHS (California League of High Schools) Region 11 Awards Banquet
at the Long Beach Yacht Club, November 29, 2005. There were ten nominees from a number of
districts, with SAUSD sweeping in with four nominees: Karen Bluel, Music teacher at Valley High
School; Dr. Ricardo Jara, AP Chemistry teacher at Valley High School; Laura Rubio, Social Science teacher
at Century High School, and Alex.
CLHS bestows this award on educators (teachers, administrators, counselors, or other support
personnel) who exemplify educational excellence and who have made significant efforts to implement
elements of educational reform in the high school. Specific criteria examples include leadership
characteristics, knowledgeable advocate of high school reform in accordance with current educational
trends and practices, incorporates State Frameworks and Standards, technology, and demonstrates/supports
powerful teaching and learning.
All ten of the nominees were outstanding, so it's especially exciting for Alex to win this prestigious
honor!
