School Attendance is a Parents' Responsibility

Under California Law it is your legal responsibility as a parent to make sure that your child attends school on a daily basis. By fullfilling your duty you will teach your child important lessons about responsibility and accountability that last a lifetime.

Suggested ways to support your child:

  • Build a relationship with your child's teacher and school staff
  • Volunteer at your child's school
  • Help your child with homework
  • Reinforce the importance of education and going to college
  • Encourage participation in after school activities
  • Establish good study habits
  • Set a regular bedtime schedule
  • Establish rules and consequences for breaking rules, and then follow through
  • Praise your child for good behavior and accomplishments
  • Pick up homework, if your child can not attend class
  • Communicate with your child
  • Be a friend to your child.... Be a parent!
